Vets Get Free Pet Care During 'Freedom Day'

Posted: Updated:

The day after the 12th anniversary of September 11th, veterinarians at the A Plus Animal Hospital on Longley Lane in Reno offered free services to veterans.

As part of "Freedom Day"- which is celebrated the day after 9/11, the hospital offered free vaccines, toenail trims and exams today.

Doctors say they've had people from across northern Nevada taken advantage of the free service and they're glad to help our veterans where they can.

"Pets are very valuable therapies to these individuals so having their dogs or cats or whatever means and if we can give a little bit back to the community what they've done for us for a very minimal wage for what we put on the line it's the least we can do," says owner Dr. Brad Lingenfelter.

The A Plus Animal Hospital hopes to keep celebrating "Freedom Day" in the future.

The unofficial holiday was created this year by a dentist in West Virginia to thank veterans for their service.
