Truckee Meadows Water: Top 2% for Quality in Country

Posted: Updated:

You use it for just about everything from laundry to brushing your teeth. We're talking about water and it takes a lot of work to make sure we all have it every day.

The Truckee Meadows Water Authority has the task of doing just that. TMWA said they are providing all of us with some high quality H2O.

In fact, it's some of the best water you'll find in the country, according to a new report and TMWA wants to show all of us how it's done.

"What most people say after the tour is boy, we didn't realize what all went into getting water through this plant and to our tap," said Mark Foree, general manager for TMWA. It's important that we convey to the community what all it takes to produce and deliver clean water to them on a daily basis."

Tuesday, Channel 2 News took a tour of the Chalk Bluff Water Treatment plant off of McCarran Boulevard, which treats about 80% of the water we use.

TMWA was just recognized by The Partnership for Safe Water for its outstanding water quality.

TMWA was ranked in the top two percent for having some of the highest performing water treatment plants in the country.

We talked to a man who took the tour of Chalk Bluff. He said he was impressed.

"I thought it was excellent," said Hank Kimbell of Sparks. "It brought a lot of clarity to how the water gets processed once it comes out of the Truckee River, flows through here and ends up at houses."

If you want to take a tour, here's when you can.

Upcoming tours are next Tuesday at 3pm. Tuesday, September 24th at 1pm or Saturday, September 28th at 10am.

To sign up, you can call 775- 834-8290.
