The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that sent a motorcyclist to the hospital with serious injuries Thursday morning.

The accident happened just after 11:30 along northbound 395 near the Lemmon Drive interchange.

Troopers say several bales of hay had just fallen out of a Dodge 3500 one-ton flatbed truck driven by 33-year-old David Atherton of Reno. He had pulled over to the side of the road just before the crash happened.

50-year-old Brian Taylor of Reno was riding his Honda Valkyrie F6 motorcycle when he tried to avoid a hay bale.

He ended up hitting one of the bales, causing him to fly off his motorcycle and slide hundreds of feet.

He was taken by Care flight to Renown Regional Medical Center where he is expected to survive.

The accident closed both northbound lanes for about half an hour.

Trooper John Protain is investigating this crash. Witnesses or anyone with additional information are encouraged to contact him via the Department of Public Safety-Communications Center at (775) 687-0400 regarding case number NHP-130900413.
