Things 2 Do This Weekend

Hot air balloons will be soaring high as we begin to fall into autumn here in Northern Nevada. After all, we are hitting hard on our special events season and this weekend is a two-fer.  That's right the Great Reno Balloon Race will keep the skies over Reno colorful this weekend and just up the hill in Virginia City, the International Camel Races will keep things colorful there. All that, plus the Broadway hit Bye Bye Birdie is on stage at the Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater. Enjoy!  

 

Friday 9/6

Wilbur D. May Museum's Tethered Balloon Races 7am-3pm

Not only will the Wilbur D. May Center offer free tethered rides for kids again this year they also have a full slate of free balloon-related activities for kids. Starting at 11 am.

International Camel Races in Virginia City 10 a.m.

If you like the off-beat, and I think camels fit that category, Virginia City is the place to be this weekend. You can watch from a distance…or even take part.

Bye Bye Birdie at the Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater 7:30 pm

It's a Broadway hit about a young rock star going into the service and this production is bring put on by the Sierra School of the Performing Arts.

Wilbur D. May Museum's Tethered Balloon Races 7am-3pm

Not only will the Wilbur D. May Center offer free tethered rides for kids again this year they also have a full slate of free balloon-related activities for kids. Starting at 11 a.m.

Great Reno Balloon Races start at 5 AM

It's one of the largest balloon rallies in the country and it's one of the most colorful events of the year for Reno.  This is the 32nd year for the event at Rancho San Rafael Park. This year they have expanded their Dawn Patrol. Which they blatantly say is worth the ‘wake'!

UNR Home Opener against UC Davis 6PM

Mackay Field is the place to be for the home opener for this year's Nevada Wolf Pack. They'll be take on U.C. Davis. Kickoff is at 6 pm.

Relax for RAVE: Studio Eight Yoga class at 12:15 PM

There is no limit. Give what you can of money and of your time relaxing with yoga at Studio Eight which is at 190 California Avenue. 100% of the proceeds go to fund RAVE with provides respite for caregivers and families with special challenges.

Kids Auction and Luau for the Boys and Girls Club 3-7 pm

This is a benefit for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada and it's happening at the Pony Express Pavilion in Mills Park in Carson City. And yes, Hawaiian shirts are encouraged.

Animal Ark Cheetah Run 5-6:30 PM

The Animal Ark is beautiful at sunset and the Cheetah run is your chance to see those magnificent animals in their own element. It's also a great cause to keep the Animal Ark going.

Free Dog Swim at Idlewild Pool 10am-3pm

For $10 Fido can swim laps at the Idlewild Pool. It's the end of the season for humans swimming and that pool goes to the dogs this last Saturday at the end of the summer. The money goes to the SPCA of Northern Nevada.
