Great Reno Balloon Races Start Friday; RTC Route Info

If you're driving along north McCarran Thursday, you may get a sneak peak at the Great Reno Balloon Race. They are holding a preview launch.

Then on Friday morning, they will kick things off with the new super glow show at 5:15 am - then mass ascension starts at 6:45.

It's all happening at Rancho San Rafael Park, and its free.

There will be some parking restrictions and police also are reminding drivers to keep their eyes on the road - and not the balloons.

RTC is providing affordable and hassle free transportation express bus service to Rancho San Rafael Park for the Great Reno Balloon Race on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 7 & 8. Avoid parking and travel hassles by taking the bus to the balloon race available every 30 minutes from 4 am to 10 am from RTC 4TH STREET STATION in downtown Reno, Reed High School in Sparks, and Parking Lot C at the Reno Sparks Convention Center (parking is free at the high school and convention center). RTC will drop you off and pick you up inside Rancho San Rafael Park.

The one-way onboard cash fare is $2 for adults or $1 for seniors (born before Jan. 1, 1950), people with disabilities and youth (ages 6-18) or buy a 24-hour pass onboard and enjoy riding transit all day. A 24-hour pass purchased onboard is $5 for adults or $2.50 for seniors, youth and disabled individuals and is valid for a full 24 hours after it is activated.

Additional pass discounts are available by pre-purchasing passes through convenient pass vending machines at RTC 4TH STREET STATION and RTC CENTENNIAL PLAZA. The 24-hour pre-purchased pass is $3.75 for adults and $1.75 for other riders. Riders can also use their current bus passes to ride the balloon race express bus service. Reduced fares require ID when boarding. Children 5 and under ride free with an adult.
