Many Activities For People on Labor Day

Posted: Updated:

Summer might be coming to an end but that doesn't mean people can't still enjoy it while it lasts.

Many chose to spend their day up in Virginia City for their annual Labor Day parade.

For the people that lined the streets to see old west gunfighters, military vehicles, and Civil War re-enactors, the historic mining town is the place to be.

"The Civil War Days, the train robbery and the wild west shows and the parade and the re-enactors. I'm really looking forward to that," Yvonne Cathey said.

"Just the old guys with the old guns, shooting black powder rifles. It's pretty entertaining," Chris Yochum said.

Political leaders from the past and present were part of the parade, including Governor Brian Sandoval and an Abraham Lincoln impersonator.

Most say it was a great way to spend the day.

"Do you see my face? It's a happy face," Marie Sadillo said. "It's a good time to be with my family and everything."

Others took a more laid-back approach to the holiday, spending their time at local parks.

"We didn't really have any big plans so we just walked down, walking the dog," Kyle McDermaid said.

"It's kind of nice to actually see the blue sky come out a little bit today," Ashley Cox said.

"Look how beautiful it is right now and how many other people are here," Richard Jager said. "So, honestly, it's a good place to come by, let the kids get wet and play around."

For those with an appetite the final day of the 'best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off was the perfect way to close out the summer.

"It's fun to hang out with friends and when you're with friends, you want to go do stuff and this is the place to go," Matt Smith said.

"The people, the experience, the food is outstanding," Sarah Chapman said. "There's something for everybody, children and older people. It doesn't matter."
