Yosemite Area Rim Fire 35% Contained

Firefighters report that the Rim Fire burning in the Yosemite Area is 35% contained Friday night.

Just under 5,000 firefighters are working to contain the blaze, which has now burned over 213,000 acres .

The fire has caused mandatory evacuations south of Highway 120 and north of Old Yosemite Road. Firefighters are currently working to protect buildings around Aspen Valley. Over 4,500 structures are still threatened by the fire.

Firefighters say they expect the fire to continue its eastward spread. They now hope to have the fire fully contained by Friday, September 20th.
