Fatal 2 Vehicle Collision in Silver Springs

Posted: Updated:

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports that one man has passed away after a two vehicle collision in Silver Springs early this morning.

According to NHP, at around 9:47 a.m. troopers were called to a two vehicle crash on US 95A in Silver Springs, just about 4 miles south of the intersection with US 50.

Investigators say that a green Dodge Stratus, driven by 68-year-old Jay R. Williams of Silver Springs, was driving along Fir Avenue, and after stopping for the stop sign there, attempted to cross the freeway. A gray Dodge pickup driven by 53-year-old James A. Talbot of Silver Springs was headed south on US 95A, when Williams Sedan pulled right into it's path. The pickup attempted to swerve to avoid the collision but struck the sedan's left side. Both cars were thrown from the road, landing near the intersection of Fir and US 95A.

Williams, the driver of the Sedan, was killed by the crash and pronounced dead on scene. Talbot was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.

US 95A was closed for around 3 hours while crews investigated.

Investigators say there may have been another vehicle that witnessed the accident, and would like to talk to the occupants.

A witness says a white pickup towing a black lowboy trailer hailing an 80's yellow Chevrolet pickup may have been parked nearby and seen the accident.

Witnesses or anyone with additional information of the crash are asked to call Trooper Chris Kelly of the Major Accident Investigation Team who is investigating this accident. He can be contacted at (775) 689-4661 or ckelly@dps.state.nv.us
