Bank of America to Close ATM in Virginia City

Posted: Updated:

Virginia City has recently run into a unique problem - when Bank of America closes their ATM, there will be no banks, and no ATMs where you can withdraw money in the entire city.

Last month Bank of America announced plans to close shop, and shut down the only ATM in town.

Tourists will no longer have the means to withdraw money.

Storey County leaders say that this is more than just a minor annoyance. "The closest bank now, the options will be to go to Carson City, Dayton, or down to Reno which during winter time is treacherous conditions for our citizens and our merchants," says county manager Pat Whitten.

Local government officials are working to change Bank of America's mind, and keep the ATM running, or entice other banks to install an ATM in town, but so far have not brokered a solution.
