Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a car accident that also injured a NDOT employee resealing a portion of Highway 50 west of Fallon.

Troopers say the accident happened just before 9:30am Wednesday at U.S. Highway 50 East and Sheckler Road, also known as State Route 117.

Troopers say a driver inside a Toyota Camary was turning left from 50 onto Sheckler when it hit a Nissan Armada driven by 34-year-old Jamie L. Sweetser of Fernley. The force of the collision caused the Armada to roll onto its roof. And it's during this chain of events, troopers say a Nevada Department of Transportation employee, on the side of the road, was also hit.

The NDOT worker, Michael D. Spanier of Hawthorne, was airlifted to Banner Churchill Community Hospital in Fallon, and then transported to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno with serious injuries.

The lone occupant inside the Camry, 88-year-old Belle C. Currie of Fallon and four other Sweetser family members inside the Armada were not seriously hurt.

Troopers say this particular section of the four-lane highway was reduced to one lane of travel in each direction, and the posted speed limit was reduced from 65 miles per hour to 55 mph.

Troopers say alcohol and drugs do not appear to be involved.

If you have any information on this accident, you're asked to Trooper Chris Kelly at 775-689-4661 or email ckelly@dps.state.nv.us regarding case number NHP-130801203.
