Hot August Nights Makes Return to Reno-Sparks Area Sunday

Posted: Updated:

Hot August Nights kicked off Friday in South Lake Tahoe, and now people from all over the region are here in the Reno-Sparks area.

There was a pre-kickoff Show-N-Shine event at the Bonanza Casino on Sunday.

Organizers say there were more than 300 cars from Mustangs, to Shelbys, even classic pick-up trucks. They say a lot of planning goes into this event each year.

"Everybody thinks we're a one-week event," said Chris Kilian, President of the Hot August Nights Board of Directors. "We will start planning this event and analyzing how everything went within a month of when the event closes. We're already negotiating contracts after the event goes."

Throughout the week, different casinos will host their own Show-N-Shine events with some prize money on the line for the best cars. A lot of people are looking forward to the inaugural Barrett-Jackson Cup, which features a grand prize of $20,000 for the ultimate "best of show".

"They're giving away a total of $40,000," Kilian said. "So, it's very exciting!"
