Friday, August 2

Political Collectibles Show & Sale, Atlantis Casino, 10 am

American Political Item Collectors is holding its biennial convention Friday and Saturday at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in south Reno starting at 10am both days. The show will offer for sale thousands of political campaign buttons, posters, advertising, protest and cause-related items. It will also provide attendees free appraisals of their political treasures by experts. Admission is $5 for both days; $10 for families for both days; free admission for kids.

Lorne Greene estate items displayed in Carson store

Triple Seven Treasures will display some Lorne Greene estate items through Monday at its new store, courtesy of an anonymous Carson City resident. The store is located at 1800 East Williams Street, Suite 2. Items on display include several awards, a Colt 45 revolver, jewelry, decor, pictures, signed books and other paper items. Hours are 11am-4pm.

 

Reno-Tahoe Open, Montreux Golf Course

The 15th annual Reno-Tahoe Open continues at Montreux Golf Course. Top players in the PGA tournament will split up a $3 million purse. Montreux is a par-72, 7,472-yard Jack Nicklaus Signature Design course, constructed in 1997. The RTO will air live on the GOLF CHANNEL from 3:30pm-5:30pm PST Friday - and 3:30pm-6pm PST Saturday - and from 4pm-6pm PST Sunday.

For a complete guide to parking for this year's tournament, visit www.renotahoeopen.com or call the tournament office at 775-322-3900. Event parking normally costs $5, but if you bring two or more non-perishable items to the Food Bank, you can park free.

This year's annual Hot Tahoe Cruisin' car show will be located at the Tahoe Biltmore Lodge & Casino in Crystal Bay all weekend long. Profits benefit the International Good Samaritans Safe Ride Club which promotes the use of designated sober drivers and seat belts.

Lake Tahoe SummerFest is a world-class celebration of the arts, and the signature Concert program will offer nine classical music concerts through August 18th on the campus of Sierra Nevada College at Incline Village. The works of Beethoven, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Sibelius, Hegge and many other great composers will be featured. Tickets start at $12.50.

Tahoe Star Tours, Northstar California Resort, 8:15pm

Join star guide and poet Tony Berendsen. Tours start at the top of Highlands Gondola at 8:15pm and end around 10:45pm. The Biggest Little Block Party, Wingfield Park, 11am

Victory Outreach Reno along with Mo Music and several other organizations are sponsoring this year's event, which aims to help at risk youth. There will be live music and a car show. The event starts at 11am-10pm.

Wine & Ribs Fundraiser, Bartley Ranch, 5pm

The Community Health Alliance is holding its second annual Wine & Ribs fundraiser at Bartley Ranch in south Reno from 5pm-8pm. Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 at the door. Over 25 different varieties of wine will be served, along with ribs from Famous Dave's. Music will be provided by Lake Tahoe's Luke Stevenson. Proceeds will benefit the non-profit which provides medical and dental care to low-income and uninsured Nevadans.

Beacon Academy of Nevada open house, Neil Road 6pm

Beacon Academy of Nevada is holding an open house for its fall online classes at 5250 Neil Road in Reno. The academy offers free public high school grades 9-12 and students can enroll in classes up to age 21.

Bats: Truth or Tales, Washoe Lake State Park, 8:30pm

The Nevada Division of State Parks is holding a discussion concerning bats at Washoe Lake State Park starting at 8:30pm. The event is free, but there is a $7 per vehicle entry fee. Meet at Washoe Lake State Park's equestrian area pavilion. The park is located south of Reno off of Highway 395 at Eastlake Boulevard (exit 44); the entrance is on the left.

Back-to-school supply fundraiser, Cantina Los Tres Hombres, 11am

Owners of Cantina Los Tres Hombres at 926 Victorian Avenue in Sparks will collect supplies for underpriviledged children in our community. They're asking for backpacks stuffed with pencils, glue, crayons, erasers, notebooks, folders, lunch boxes, etc. Cantina will donate 10% of all proceeds to buy school supplies as well.

Cafe de Thai SPCA fundraiser, 5pm

Cafe de Thai restaurant is holding a fundraiser for the SPCA of Northern Nevada at 5pm-7:30pm. The event will feature cuisines from Cafe de Thai, entertainment by The Sierra Silverstrings and CW and Mr. Spoons, silent auction and raffle. Cafe de Thai is located at 7499 Longley Lane in Reno.
