Aces Fall in Extras, 9-7

Posted: Updated:

The Reno Aces fell 9-7 to the Tacoma Rainiers in the series opener Friday night, in what was a dramatic 12-inning affair at Aces Ballpark.

After Abraham Almonte and Robert Andino each homered in the tenth to give Tacoma a 7-5 edge, the Aces pushed across a pair of runs to again tangle the score. Another two-run frame by the Rainiers in the twelfth gave the club an edge they would not surrender.

Carlos Peguero recorded a six-hit game for the Rainiers, falling just a triple short of the cycle. The slugger went 6-for-7 with a double, home run and three RBI.

Six Aces batters had a multi-hit performance, as Reno combined for 15 hits. Alfredo Marte hit his third home run of the season in the second, and Ed Easley recorded his first game with two doubles of the season.

The Aces committed four errors on the night, tying a franchise record.

In the second, and possibly final, game of his Major League Rehabilitation Assignment with Reno, D-backs RHP Brandon McCarthy gave up three runs—two earned—on six hits through 6.0 innings, while striking out three.

Reliever Eury De La Rosa was ultimately charged with the loss, after he surrendered two runs on three hits through the final frame.

Bobby LaFromboise and Jonathan Arias combined to shutout Reno through the final two innings, and were credited with a win and a save, respectively.

The series continues Saturday night at Aces Ballpark. RHP Zeke Spruill (3-3, 3.64 ERA) will take the mound for Reno, while the Rainiers will counter with LHP James Paxton (7-7, 4.40 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and 2,000 lucky fans at the gate will receive an Aces tumbler at the gates.
