Grassroots Community Rally on SouthEast Connector Saturday

Posted: Updated:

Construction on the SouthEast Connector began five months ago, but some residents say the project will increase the threat of flooding and cause environmental harm.

When completed, the 5.5 mile stretch will connect Greg Street in Sparks to South Meadows Parkway in south Reno.

Project developers say it should be completed in 2016 - and they expect some 50,000 drivers will use the road every day. But there are concerns about the project's impact on wetlands.

Some residents are calling on the Regional Transportation Commission to conduct a full environmental impact study before the project continues.

They'll hold a grassroots community rally and collecting signatures Saturday at 10am in front of the UNR main station farm on McCarran Boulevard near Mill Street.
