Hells Angels member Cesar Villagrana has changed his plea in connection with a September 2011 shooting in Sparks during Street Vibrations.
Villagrana pleaded guilty to a challenge to fight and battery charges and faces up to 15 years in prison and a possible $15,000 fine when he is sentenced September 4th.
Villagrana originally pled not guilty to attempted murder and consipiracy charges after allegedly shooting a Vagos motorcycle club member in the leg during a fight at Trader Dick's inside John Ascuaga's Nugget on September 23rd.
Jury selection continues for Ernesto Gonzalez, president of the Vagos chapter in Nicaragua, who's accused of killing San Jose Hells Angel chapter president Jeffrey ‘Jethro' Pettigrew during the same shooting.
He faces several charges, including first degree murder and discharging a firearm in a structure. He was set to go on trial at the same time as Villagrana, now only the one defendant will face a jury.
"It avoids being convoluted to the extent that we have folks seated at counsel table that some might say are at odds with one another and as a consequence, I believe it simplifies matters to a large extent," says attorney David Houston.
Now that Gonzalez is the only defendant, the trial is expected to last two weeks instead of three. We tried to talk to prosecutors about today's developments, but they say they won't be addressing the media until the end of the trial.
