Cattle Guard Fire Fully Contained, Smith Ranch Fire Continues to Burn

Posted: Updated:

Firefighters in the Elko area have been busy fighting several fires over the past few days, but as of this morning, one of those fires has been fully contained.

The Cattle Guard fire, burning since mid-afternoon on July 16th, has been fully contained. It burned at total of 3,880 acres of reservation land, four miles south of Owyhee. The firefighters working on that fire have since been reassigned to other fires burning in the area.

Firefighters also say they are making progress on the Cattle Guard fire, which has burned around 6,000 acres, 10 miles northeast of Jiggs, Nevada. Around 30 residences in that area have been evacuated until the fire is better contained. Officials say it is currently 45% contained. Firefighters have not said when they expect to have it fully under control.
