Police say one 18-year-old Sparks resident has been placed under arrest after he and three friends attempted to rob a group of victims in Van Meter Park at 1300 O'Callaghan Drive.

According to the three victims, at around 11 p.m. they were approached by a group of three Latino males, and asked about their gang affiliation. When the victims denied being in a gang, the men left, and returned with one additional man. One of the men then drew a handgun and demanded valuables from the victims. When one 22-year-old victim refused, the gang members beat him in the face with the handgun and fled. That victim was taken to Renown Medical Center to be treated with non-life threatening injuries.

The Regional Gang Unit was then called in to lead an investigation, they did identify one suspect, 18 year old Jaime Garcia. He was arrested for armed robbery and battery with a deadly weapon.

The gang unit and Sparks Police are still investigating to find the other three gang members, if you have any information to report on this case, you're asked to call Secret Witness at 322-4900.
