Initial Jobless Claims in Nevada Fall Below 15,000 in June

Posted: Updated:

Initial claims for unemployment in Nevada fell 11.8% in June from the same month last year, marking the first time since January that the decline has exceeded 10%.

The Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation on Thursday reports 14,910 initial claims for jobless benefits were filed in June. That's the second lowest in the past five years and only the second time in that period that initial claims were below 15,000. The other time was in September 2012, when 13,932 claims were processed.

Initial claims peaked in December 2008, when 36,414 were filed.

The department will release a full report on June jobless rates on Friday.  (AP)
