Tiger Dash to Benefit Safe Haven Rescue Zoo

Posted: Updated:

Earlier this year, we took you east of Reno to the Safe Haven Rescue Zoo. It's a sanctuary for exotic animals.

Safe Haven opened in northern Nevada ten years ago near Imlay.

Officials care for animals that people tried to domesticate or keep in small zoos. Animals like a 600-pound Siberian tiger, a Canadian lynx and African servals.

Many of the animals have been declawed and they can't be returned to the wild.

Safe Haven is getting ready for its second annual Tiger Dash. The 5k race is set for Saturday,October 12th. The event starts at 11 am and goes until 5pm.

Organizers have a full day of family-friendly events planned besides the race -- including tours of the facility.

Proceeds will benefit the zoo's ongoing efforts to help exotic animals.
