Deputies: Officer-Involved Shooting Kills One in Reno

Posted: Updated:

Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in the 2100 block of Belcrest in Reno near El Rancho Drive.

Officers from both the Reno and Sparks Police Departments were involved in the 1:30pm shooting.

Investigating Deputies say a suicidal subject was walking in the area carrying a shotgun. While officers were investigating an officer-involved shooting occurred.

The suspect was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

"We did notice that 8 to 10 shots went off. I know that the first one was a shotgun. The rest were pistols," says Uriel Marquez.

Neighbors say they ran inside when the gun shots went off. And that's when police started swarming the area.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office would not tell us if the shooting happened inside a home or out in the street here.

Because this was officer involved. they are releasing limited information at this time.

Neighbors told us that police were down here before the gun shots went off, but they didn't know why.

The sheriff's office says it's still trying to put the pieces together before releasing information on what exactly happened here.

"The regional officer-involved shooting investigation team has been called out. That's detectives from Reno, Sparks and Washoe County," says Bob Harmon.
