City Directs Manager to End Parking Meter Contract

Posted: Updated:

The Reno City Council has directed the city manager to terminate the city's contract with a company that installed parking meters two years ago.

CURB System must now get back to the city by midnight Friday on how to fix ongoing problems, as part of the 120-day deadline the city set for the company back in March.

Wednesday, Councilwoman Neoma Jardon said malfunctions with the parking meters are still too high. "It's inconvenient to access, it's frustrating and confusing to use and you know that's been a deterrant to businesses and economic development in downtown," says Jardon.

The city says they've lost more than $800,000 in parking revenue since the kiosks were first installed more than two years ago.

Tuesday CURB system said it has filed a complaint in arbitration over the ending of the contract, but so far the city says they have not received any official complaint.
