Bison Fire Near Gardnerville Now 91% Contained

Posted: Updated:

Fire crews say the 24,136 acre lightning-sparked Bison Fire near Gardnerville is now 91% contained.

East Fork Protection and Paramedic District, Fire Chief Todd Carlini reports Douglas County Commissioners have declared a State of Emergency for the Bison Fire. This allows the county to request additional state resources and assistance, as well as federal assistance, should Governor Brian Sandoval deem a State of Emergency for the state of Nevada.

The fire is still scheduled to be fully contained around Sunday, July 14th.

Officials say that several commercial structures have been destroyed as the fire burned into the Slater Mine area. The extent of that damage is not yet known.

Th cost, to date, of fighting this fire is $7,131,594. Crews say the biggest part of the cost is the use of airacraft.

There has been one firefighter injury (twisted knee) reported.
