Protestors Upset Over Proposed Social Security Cuts

Posted: Updated:

Local seniors and advocacy groups are upset over a proposal that would result in cuts to Social Security.

Tuesday, they formed a "chain of solidarity," to make their message loud and clear.

"We have time! don't you cut a single dime!"

This protest happened outside the Social Security office on Harvard Way in Reno.

Protestors say under the proposal, the longer a senior collects Social Cecurity, the more will get cut. They say it will result in a $1,000 loss each year by the time a retireee reaches age 85.

"We earned our Social Security we paid into it, for 40 50 years, and now they want to reduce the benefit that we have earned and it's wrong, it's wrong for all of america," says Rita Weisshaar of Reno.

A similar "human chain" protest was also held today in Las Vegas, as well as dozens of cities around the nation.
