Reno Police Identify 2 Men Who Drowned in Truckee River

Posted: Updated:

Reno police officers have identified the two men who died Monday night after getting caught in the Truckee River.

They say 17-year-old Wilfredo Avila-Sedano and 24-year-old Manuel Chavarin, both of Reno, got into the river just west of the S. McCarran bridge.

Witnesses say they entered an area that was quite deep and they were unable to swim - and disappeared under the water.

Search and rescue crews pulled the two out. They were transported to Renown Regional Medical Center where they were pronounced dead.

RPD would like to remind the community to always wear approved flotation devices when entering the river. They also say to never go swimming under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Anyone with any information on the accident is being asked to call the Reno Police Department at 334-2121.
