Galena Forest House Fire Hospitalizes Two

Posted: Updated:

Two have been hospitalized after a fire broke out in a home overnight on June 29th. Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District officials report that fire crews were called to a home on Clarence Jasmine Drive in the Galena Forest area at around 2:45 a.m. When crews arrived, they saw fire burning from the second floor of the home. Workers successfully stopped the fire from spreading to the woods outside the structure, but the home was badly damaged.

The two victims were taken to Renown Medical Center, one is being treated for a burn to the shoulder, the other for smoke inhalation. Two pet cats living in the home did not survive the fire.

Truckee Meadows Fire Protection Chief Charles Moore says that smoke detectors saved the victim's lives by waking them up before it was too late.

Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire, but say it may have been started by a kitchen appliance.
