Places 2 Check Out: 1864 Tavern

Posted: Updated:

There's a new Place 2 Check Out on California Avenue, that celebrates Nevada's history in several ways - starting with the name.

The 1864 Tavern opened up last month. The name of course, honors the year in which Nevada became the 36th state in the union.

The tavern's walls are covered with work from local artists, as well as historical figures.

The concept of the 1864 Tavern was born seven years ago in the Middle East. At the time, the owner and his business partner were serving as flight engineers with the Nevada Air National Guard in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"We're both native Nevadans and we both want to celebrate Nevada in our own special way and we wanted to open up an establishment that does that," says Shawn Plunket.

Their menu is a tribute to the Silver State as well with drinks like the "Nevada Fix" and the "VC Mule."
