Firefighters in Sparks are mopping up a small brush fire that flared up near Spanish Springs High School.

The Eagle Fire started around 2:45pm in the hills just west of the school off of Eagle Canyon Drive.

Firefighters attacked the flames from the air and the ground and managed to keep it to about five acres.

They say several people target shooting reported the fire, so they believe a ricochet may have started it.

They say its very important people pay attention when they're doing outdoor activities.

"We want to encourage residents to be very careful when out and about, when they're out and about whether they're camping or shooting or other recreational things that they're doing," says TMFPD Fire Marshal Amy Ray.

They also want to remind northern Nevadans - with the upcoming Fourth of July holiday fireworks are illegal and should only be set off by professionals.
