Nevada Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a head-on accident that injured 3 people and shut down Highway 50 for nearly two hours.

The accident happened just before 7am Wednesday a half-mile west of Zephyr Cove on Highway 50 in Douglas County.

Troopers say the male driver of a Cadillac sedan was heading east when for some reason he crossed the double-yellow line and hit a Subaru Forester head-on.

The Cadillac driver suffered serious injuries and was flown by Care Flight to Renown Regional Center in Reno. Two young children inside the car suffered minor injuries and were transported to Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe, California.

The Subaru driver was not hurt.

The crash shut down the four-lane highway for about 90 minutes while troopers investigated the scene. It reopened around 8:30am.

Trooper Bob Wright is investigating this accident. Witnesses with any information about this event should contact him via the Department of Public Safety-Communications Center at (775) 687-0400 regarding case number NHP-130602410.
