Neighborhood Watch Meeting in Fernley Wednesday

Posted: Updated:

The City of Fernley and Lyon County Sheriff's Office will hold a neighborhood watch community meeting on Wednesday night.

It will run from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. inside Fernley City Hall at 595 Silver Lace Blvd.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office urges neighbors to look out for each other, and if something doesn't look or feel right, to call authorities.

"Letting each other know, hey, some people don't belong here, and we need to keep an eye on those people," says Capt. Bryan Veil.

This is still a tight-knit community, even after last month's killing of four people in Fernley, and a fifth person in Mustang.

"I have lived in New York and other places, and this, even as it is now, it's by far the safest place I have ever lived," Stephen Menyhart told us a few weeks ago. "By far."

"If we can get neighborhood watch up and running in the different areas of Fernley, people will get to know their neighbors better," says Christopher Good, the Fernley city manager. "They'll learn more about their community."
