Eric Chavez Set to Join Reno Aces on Major League Rehab

From the Reno Aces:

Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Eric Chavez is scheduled to join the Reno Aces on Monday night to begin his Major League Rehabilitation Assignment, the organization announced today.

Chavez was placed on the D-backs 15-day Disabled List on May 31, with a right oblique tear. He was 37-for-114 (.325) with 18 runs, seven doubles, a triple and 25 RBI in 38 games with the D-backs this season before his injury.

The 35-year-old California native is entering his first season in the D-backs organization, after signing as a free agent in December 2012. Chavez is a six-time American League Gold Glove Award winner (2001—2006), tied for the fourth-most all-time.

He was selected by the Oakland A's as the club's first round selection (10th overall) in the 1996 draft. He spent 14 years with the Oakland organization, before spending the last two with the New York Yankees.

D-backs RHP J.J. Putz is also currently on a rehab assignment with the Aces. Infielders Didi Gregorius and Aaron Hill, and outfielders Adam Eaton and Cody Ross completed rehab assignments with Reno earlier this season.

The Aces will face the Tucson padres on Monday night (7:05 p.m.) and Tuesday afternoon (1:05 p.m.), before enjoying the fourth league-wide off day of the season. Reno returns home for a three-game series against the Salt Lake Bees from July 1—3.

Tickets are on sale for this homestand, and all Aces home games, at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
