Adam Varahachaikol started as an intern at KTVN during the summer of 2008 while he was a student at the University of Nevada, Reno. That fall, he earned a position as a production assistant where he ran studio cameras, teleprompter and helped create graphics. Then, after graduating cum laude from the University in 2009 with his degree in journalism, he moved into the newsroom where he started as an associate producer for Channel 2 News This Morning. The next year, he was promoted to weekday Channel 2 News at 11 p.m. producer and weekend assignment editor in which he would send reporters and photographers on a variety of stories for the day.
In 2012, he was given the opportunity to do some on-air work on the high school sports shows, Inside the 2 and 2 the Hoop.
In 2013, He was promoted to KTVN video journalist. On weekdays, he shot stories, while he reported on the weekends. Later that year, he was assigned to reporting full-time, Monday through Friday.
"Many of my co-workers tell me I'm a journeyman at Channel 2," he said. "It's helped me appreciate my job that much more, and I would do it again in a heartbeat."
Some of the things he loves most about his job is getting creative with his camera shots, and meeting different people. He also enjoys writing and putting together stories.
In 2004, Adam graduated from Earl Wooster High School, where he played multiple sports and maintained a 3.7 GPA.
In his off time, Adam enjoys cooking, playing video games and spending time with his family, friends and fiancée, Kelsey. Their wedding is scheduled for August of 2014. He also likes going to San Francisco occasionally because it's his favorite city for the culture and food.
Adam loves all kinds of music, but his all-time favorite genres are R&B/Soul and Jazz, with Mayer Hawthorne, Anthony Hamilton and John Legend as his favorite artists.
Adam's family used to own a Thai restaurant known as the original Siamese Hut located near the intersection of Mill Street and Kietzke Lane, before it was sold in 2000. You may have remembered him as the occasional water boy!
Finally, Adam gets constantly asked about how to correctly pronounce his last name. In case you're wondering, it's Var-UH-ha-CHIH-cole.
