Detectives from the Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit have arrested a violent sexual predator who failed to register in Nevada.

A tip led detectives, along with the U.S. Marshal Service to 70-year-old David Hopkins who was staying at the El Ray Motel on Arlington Avenue.

Authorities say Hopkins admitted to them he'd been in the area for about a year, stating he didn't where to register.

Hopkins was last registered with the Sheriff's Office in Tehama County, California.

Hopkin was transported to the Washoe County Jail and booked on a felony charge of sex offender failing to register. His bail is set at $5,000.

Detectives also arrested 52-year-old David Ashby at a motor lodge on West Second Street.

They say he had come to Nevada from Utah where he had a warrant for failing to register there.

Ashby was transported to the Washoe County Jail and booked for the felony charge of sex offender failing to register (2nd offense). His bail has been set at $10,000.

Ashby is also being held as a fugitive on the outstanding warrant from Utah.

And - 27-year-old Brian Chavez was arrested Friday in Sparks. He is wanted by the Alaska State Troopers for the alleged sexual assault of a minor.

Anyone with information on either of these men is asked to contact the RSONU at 353-2244, Monday thru Friday, 7am to 5pm, or Secret Witness at 322-4900 or text your tip to 847411.

As the result of the Adam Walsh Protection and Safety Act of 2006, the United States Marshals Service is the primary federal agency responsible for investigating sex offenders, convicted in federal or state court, who have failed to register or update their registration and travel in interstate or foreign commerce.
