Reno City Council Discusses Several Issues

Posted: Updated:

Reno city council members discussed several issues at Wednesday's meeting. Medical marijuana dispensaries was the hot topic, but they also tackled bike taxis downtown and a new business in Verdi.

As far as medical marijuana goes, the council voted to direct staff to do more research, and then at that point, they will discuss the issue more in depth.

"We're going to look at other cities that are doing the same thing, and make sure that we have a clear understanding of the magnitude of the issue." said council member Hillary Schieve.

Another issue the council talked about was the growing business of pedi-cabs, specifically in Downtown Reno. They want to start regulating pedi-cabs, which are basically carts pulled by a bicycle. They passed an ordinance requiring the bike taxis to operate with a permit or license.

Finally, the council approved a new truck stop in Verdi that has been in the planning phase for years. However some residents do not like the new stop being put so close to houses.

"They're breaking their own law." said Donald Archibald, who lives near the proposed truck stop. "It's supposed to be 13,020 feet from the closest house, and it's going to be 415."
