An 8-year-old girl donated her hair Monday morning to help fight cancer.
Amaya Velazquez had her hair cut at Salon Bobby Pin on California Avenue.
Her mother says she has been wanting to donate her hair since October of last year.
"For a couple months now she's been taking really good care of her hair, she's been doing weekly coconut oil hair masks and drinking her healthy drinks and she keeps talking about how she has to have healthy hair to donate so she's really excited about it," says mother Danielle Velazquez.
Amaya's hair will be used to make wigs for cancer patients as well as people with hair loss diseases like alopecia.
If you'd like to help this great cause -- and donate your hair -- you can do so at the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life this coming weekend. It starts at 1pm on Saturday and goes through Sunday at Reno High School at 395 Booth Street.
