This Is It for the THISISIT Ranch in Reno

Posted: Updated:

It's 16 acres of summertime fun for kids. It's got everything from archery to swimming, from old fashioned crafts to trampolines and from team sports to a bucking' bronco. But if you want your kids to have that kind of a summer camp experience you'll only got this summer to make it happen. Because the This-is-it Ranch is closing at the end of the summer.

"I have loved every minute of this," says owner Rusty Crook. "But I'll be 80 in July and it's time to close it down. My wife and I deserve some time to enjoy life and this is a little piece of heaven we've built ourselves."

For 50 years Rusty and Susie have added to the This-is-it Ranch. They have the best equipment you can buy. And most importantly they love to see the kids come and enjoy it.

"I've loved sitting at the kitchen table in the morning and seeing kids arrive. They play team sports, and they swim in the pool Rusty built," Susie Crook says. "And they have learned teamwork and leadership and skills that will help them in life. And they all seem to love it here. We're on our third generation!"

"They have BB guns and archery. I get to swim two times a day and see all my friends and I love it here," says Landon Kimsey.

"I'd love to keep it going but I know when it's time to call it quits," says Rusty. "The liability insurance here is outrageous. But it's a beautiful place to live. We've been offered a lot of money for this little slice of heaven. But we haven't seen any place else that's this wonderful. So I think we'll stay and enjoy it ourselves. After all, we have 11 grandchildren. I don't think it will be that lonely."

The This-is-it Ranch is inviting former campers and counselors back for a big reunion this weekend. Counselors are invited for a day of fun there Saturday, June 15th, and all former campers on Sunday, June 16th. Reunions will run from 1pm-5pm both days. Bring your bathing suit and your sense of adventure.
