At 444 pm pdt the National Weather Service doppler radar indicated flash flooding from a thunderstorm over the warned area.

Thunderstorms across the Pyramid Lake area up to Gerlach have brought heavy rains and flooding. There have been reports of debris and water across roads along Route 447 and County Road 34.

A flash flood warning means flooding is imminent or occurring. People in flood prone and low lying areas should move to higher ground. Do not attempt to cross swift flowing water by foot or automobile.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams country roads as well as ranchland along the banks of creeks and streams.

From Washoe County:

Washoe County road crews have closed Route 447, approximately 5 miles north of Gerlach, due to flooding over the roadway. County Route 34 north out of Gerlach is also closed as there is heavy water and debris washing out the road in many locations. At this time it is not known when those routes will re-open.

The County is also working on localized flooding in the Spanish Springs area from La Posada to Calle De La Plata east of the Pyramid Lake Highway.  Crews in the area are now clearing debris from the roadways.
