It is going to be a hot weekend out there. And you know what else is hot this weekend? Motor sports. The Reno-Fernley Raceway is hosting OctaneFest with motocross events and monster trucks galore. And it will be hard to miss the hundreds of Harleys in town for the Street Vibrations Spring Rally this weekend. But there are also quite a few ways to cool off on our list of Things 2 Do: including community pools opening in Reno, Sparks and Washoe Valley and Saturday is National Outdoors Day…and Free Fishing Day too! Enjoy!


Friday 6/7

Suits and Sneakers

Golf at Arrowcreek 1:30: This is actually a two-day fundraiser golf on Saturday and a big dinner at the Atlantis on Sunday. Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.


Street Vibrations Spring Rally J.A. Nugget 2-7

Always a huge gathering of Harleys and other motorcycles. This is kind of a sneak peak of what's to come with Street Vibrations at the end of the summer. Events including show and shines and poker runs are planned for both Reno and Sparks.


Summer Kids Kick-off Alf Sorenson 5pm-7 pm

This is how the City of Sparks kicks off the summer for kids!


Carson Events Honoring Fathers at the Carson Plaza 3:30 for games

A gathering of senior citizens and lectures on topics for dads. Friday is game day.


Aces Help Strike Out Hunger Food Drive 7 pm Aces Stadium:

The Aces will be on the field and you are asked to donate non-perishable food as you enter the gates. It will all be donated to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada to help "Strike Out Hunger"



Saturday 6/8

More Suits and Sneakers to benefit The American Cancer Society"

This is the second day of the two-day fundraiser called Suits and Sneakers aimed at helping the America Cancer Society. The dinner is at the Atlantis starting at 5:30


The Summit Farmers Market, 9am-2pm 

They will a have a market every Tuesday and Saturday during the summer


Carson honors Fathers Carson Plaza 11am talking about nutrition

Today's topic at the Carson Plaza will be on nutrition for seniors.


Street Vibrations Spring Rally John Ascuaga's Nugget:

The Nugget is the gathering spot but there will be all kinds of events from poker runs to show and shines in both Reno and Sparks all weekend-long.


Reno High School Graduation Lawlor 3 pm

Reno High School's class of 2012 will receive their diplomas starting at 3 pm at Lawlor. Yes this is a shameless but proud entry to highlight Meghan Breen…my last to make it through! Of course there will other schools graduating before and after.


Rocking on Heaven's Door at Bartley Ranch 6:45 pm

A memorial concert to benefit the Ricky Woodring Memorial Fund. The concert at Bartley Ranch is a night of Blues and Rock-n-Roll and will feature the Laurie Morvan Band, the Greg Golden Band and the Markleevillains. Concert starts at 6:45


Free Fishing day for National Get Outdoors Day all water-based park:

From Sand Harbor to the Sparks Marina it's free fishing for all on Saturday. Sponsored by the Nevada Department of Wildlife


Sam's Club hosts Free Men's Health Screenings 11-3 all Sam's Clubs


Free Healthcare for Pets of Homeless Residents:

St. Vincent's Food Pantry on E. 4th Street will be hosting the event for the homeless to take their pets for vaccinations and medications and care. Runs from 8 am to noon.


Join Our Heroes Charity Game

11 am game starts at 1pm at Damonte Ranch

San Francisco 49ers vs. Firefighters charity basketball game to benefit the Save Protect Organization.


Community Pools open for Business

Bowers Mansion Pool hasn't been open to the public since 2009 but will be this weekend. Idlewild in Reno and Trainer in Sparks will also be open and ready for splashing!



Sunday 6/9


Kayaking, Sailing and More at the Sparks Marina:

Another part of the City of Sparks kick-off to summer. But this one's centered at the Marina instead.


Pops Party 29th annual Carson Symphony Concert at the Governor's Mansion. Mansion 3 pm:

A fine afternoon concert in a fabulous setting. The Carson City Symphony is putting it on and it's at the Governor's Mansion. Not only will the symphony play, the concert will also feature Reno Jazz artist Jakki Ford. Starts at 3:30 and it's free.
