The Food Bank of Northern Nevada is gearing up for its busy season feeding kids over the summer, who don't get regular meals once school is out.
Wednesday, the Food Bank kicked off the season at Donner Springs Elementary School by handing out bags of tangerines to kids who qualify for free or reduced lunches, and may need a little help during summer months.
Volunteers will be at Donner Springs every day next week serving lunch - and then at 30 different sites around Washoe County for the rest of the summer.
"It's good to get them out to the summer meal program so that they can keep up with the nutrition they need all through the summer," says Jocelyn Lantrip.
Lantrip says that although summer is a very busy season for them, donations are usually slower to come in.
