New Race and Sportsbook Opens Inside Grand Sierra Resort

Posted: Updated:

The Grand Sierra Resort in Reno celebrated the opening of its new sportsbook Friday.

Reno Mayor Bob Cashell and the casino's ownership participated in a ribbon cutting to open the new race and sportsbook which is operated by William Hill.

It is complete with more screens, new VIP rooms and a completely redesigned location.

The casino hopes it will help attract both Northern Nevadans and people from across the region.

"If every casino would build something like this it would help the market it would help the betting industry, and would just continue to bring in not only the locals but all those who are coming in from the regional side, the tourists who just want a good race and sportsbook experience," says GSR Assistant General Manager Dan Uonites.

The Grand Sierra's new sportsbook is now the largest one William Hill operates in Nevada.

The opening is part of more than $25-million in Grand Sierra rennovations that began last year.
