Whittemore Trial to Stretch Into Next Week

Posted: Updated:

Lawyers for Harvey Whittemore say they don't know yet whether the former Nevada developer and high-powered lobbyist will testify at his own trial on charges he broke federal campaign fundraising laws.

Dominic Gentile told the Reno Gazette-Journal on Thursday his legal team hasn't decided yet whether it's in Whittemore's best interest to take the witness stand.

U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks says the trial that was expected to wrap up on Friday will now continue into next week. The proceedings were delayed on Thursday when the judge removed a juror from the panel after he was overheard making a comment that raised questions about whether he could be fair to Whittemore.

The Sparks developer is accused of making nearly $150,000 in illegal campaign contributions to Sen. Harry Reid in 2007.
