Ban On Sports Betting in Bars Clears State Senate

Posted: Updated:

A bill that would put an end to sports betting kiosks in bars and restaurants has cleared the state Senate and now moves to the Assembly.

SB-416 passed 18 to 3 yesterday. The measure would get restrict sports betting to large casinos that hold unrestricted gambling licenses.

Currently, bars and restaurants can have up to 15 slot and video poker machines. Last year, they started adding sports betting kiosks to their games.

The Nevada Resort Association, a trade organization that represents many of the state's largest casinos, argues the sports kiosks cross the line of slot and video poker machines. They say the should be restricted to a sports book for big casinos that hold unrestricted gaming licenses.
