Countdown to Graduation Launches for Washoe County High Schools

Posted: Updated:

From Washoe County School District:

Fifteen of the Washoe County School District's (WCSD) most outstanding and inspiring graduates are the focus of this year's "2013 Countdown to Graduation" campaign, which launches today and runs through June 7. The campaign features a new student profile posted each weekday for three weeks on the WCSD website.

"We celebrate the accomplishments of all of our graduates as they leave our schools with their diplomas in hand and move forward with their lives," said Superintendent Pedro Martinez. "We congratulate them and their families, and wish all of them well."

Many of the students profiled as part of this year's Countdown to Graduation have overcome serious challenges and obstacles to reach their graduation goals. Some confronted medical issues and the loss of family members, while others rededicated themselves to their studies after overcoming initial challenges in their classwork. Each was nominated by principals and counselors for their achievements both in the classroom and in the community.

"These students have worked hard and have overcome many obstacles to achieve this important goal, and we are tremendously proud of them," said WCSD Board of Trustees President Barbara Clark. "They are remarkable young people, and we expect great things from them in the future."

Students, parents, and the community are encouraged to read the profiles, which also feature comments from their counselors and principals, along with videos of each graduate.
