One Step Closer To Gay Marriage in Nevada

Posted: Updated:

A bill that would legalize gay marriage in Nevada moved forward yesterday. It will now go to the state assembly for a vote.

Thursday, SRJ-13 was passed by the Assembly Committee on Legislative Operations and Elections. That allows it to go to the full assembly for a vote, where it is expected to pass.

The measure would repeal the Protection of Marriage Act, passed in 2002 by Nevada voters. The act defines marriage as between a man and a woman.

The resolution has made it through the state Senate and if it passes the Assembly it will still have to pass again in the 2015 session. Then it must be approved by voters in 2016 to take effect.
