Reno Rodeo Announces Changes

Posted: Updated:

Special event season is on its way to the Truckee Meadows.

In just about a month, some of the toughest cowboys and cowgirls we'll be coming to town to try and win cash. Of course, we're talking about the Reno Rodeo.

Steve Schroeder, Director of Communications for the Reno Rodeo says they are focusing on children this year. "We've got junior roping programs, we've got kids activities, we've got a kids day. The mutton busting; of course, is one of the key events that takes place. It's a great time for the family."

It's a great time for our economy as well.

Schroeder says the Reno Rodeo generates $42 million for our area - the third highest of any summer event.

This year's rodeo starts on June 20th.

More than 1,000 professional athletes will compete this year for more than $2.5 million in cash.

The competition is nice but for all of us watching, it's just about having a great time.

"It's all about having fun with your friends. When you walk through the grandstands, you are going to see a bunch of people you know. Get dressed up be a cowgirl, be a cowboy for the week, have a great time, bring the kids, have the food and enjoy the Reno Rodeo."
