Law Enforcement Kick-Off 'Click It or Ticket' Campaign

Posted: Updated:

Officers across the Silver State will be looking for drivers who don't buckle up during a "Click it or Ticket" campaign over the next few weeks.

Thursday at the Grand Sierra Resort, they used a machine called "the convincer" to demonstrate how jolting a car accident can be even at five miles and hour.

Starting Saturday through June 2nd, state troopers, sheriff's deputies and local police will be joining forces to enforce seat belt laws.

"Any time you're involved in a crash, high speed or low, you're still going to have some sort of an impact or an injury on yourself. If you're buckled up, that chance of being injured is much less," says Trooper John Schilling.

Officers will also be looking out for people who are driving while distracted.

The enforcement is made possible by an $83,000 grant from the Department of Public Safety.

Last year in Nevada there were 234 fatal crashes resulting in a total of 257 traffic-related deaths.
