Powerball and Mega Millions Hit Combined $550 Million

From Gold Ranch RV Resort and Casino

The California Lottery's POWERBALL jackpot is estimated at $360,000,000 for the drawing on Wednesday, May 15 and is the third-largest jackpot in POWERBALL history.

Tickets are available at Gold Ranch RV Resort and Casino's Lottery Building, and Hallelujah Junctions, located just across the California border.

We headed out to those locations and there were long lines of people hoping to buy the winning ticket at the last minute.

"I'm going to try and win the Powerball, so I can retire, travel and be set," said Nancy Donohue from Fernley.

"I have children. I'd like to be able to share it with my family and grand kids," said Dawn Sperlin of Reno. "College would be for the grand kids. I would give a lot to charities, I'm old. I don't need much."

Iowa Lottery Spokeswoman, Mary Neubauer says the "cross-selling" of Powerball and Mega Millions tickets, as well as a game redesign in 2012, has been boosting jackpots and increasing the odds of winning some kind of prize.

She said large jackpots are the new normal, and she expects them to keep surpassing all-time jackpot records set years ago.

In addition to tonight's POWERBALL drawing at 7:59pm, Mega Millions is also up $190 million, which will be drawn this Friday night.
