Authorities Investigate Suspicious Box In Fernley

Posted: Updated:

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is investigating a report of a suspicious box in Fernley Sunday morning.

Deputies say they received the initial call around 7:30 a.m. A clerk at the 7-Eleven on Main Street informed officers that someone left the suspicious box next to the fuel pumps.

The business was evacuated, along with some surrounding businesses and homes. Main Street was closed and traffic was re-routed in the area as a precaution.

The Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Detachment from Fallon N.A.S. came on scene and investigated the box and later determined it did not contain explosive or hazardous materials.

Deputies say the person who left the box is unknown at this time. They say the investigation is ongoing.

If you have any information on this incident, you're being asked to call the Lyon County Sheriff's Office at (775) 577-5023 or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900. You can also text your tip to 847-411.
