Local Casinos Holding Job Fairs This Month

Posted: Updated:

Over the next few weeks, two casinos here in town will be looking to fill hundreds of positions.

Before the summer season gets underway, the Grand Sierra Resort (GSR) wants to fill more than 100 positions.

"We have everything available from part-time, full-time, management, entry-level," says Sara Robbins with the GSR. "Anything you can think of, we are offering positions for that."

Potential candidates will be interviewed on the spot, and many of the positions will be filled that same day.

"The last job fair we had, we had over 3,000 people show up," says Robbins. "So, we're hoping to beat that this year."

In downtown Reno, the Eldorado Hotel Casino is also looking to fill dozens of positions.

"We love great personalities, smiling, great eye contact," says Rick Marsh. "Those are the things that we look for when we're interviewing."

Marsh says the casino is already seeing hotel rooms fill up fast with summer approaching.

"This is a time we start having a push to hire more people to handle our increased business levels that we're going to expect to happen in the summer time," he says.

Bill Anderson, the Chief Economist for the Department of Employee Training and Rehabilitation says that's pretty typical this time of year.

And, with the state's unemployment rate dropping to 9.7 percent in March, he says we should expect to continue seeing modest improvements.

"Even after you take into account, you know those season ups and downs, the overall trend is up as I said, when we compare to the first three months of last year," says Anderson.

Certainly promising news moving forward.

"We're forecasting continued improvement, just not the kind of gains that we saw prior to the recession," says Anderson.

The GSR will hold its job fair on Tuesday, May 14. It runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On Wednesday, May 22, the Eldorado will hold its job fair. That one runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
