Police: Body Found Inside Burned Out Reno Shed

Posted: Updated:

Reno police and firefighters are investigating a body found inside a burned home shed.

The body was found after 6am Thursday inside a house on Silver Rush Court and Gold Arrow Drive in Double Diamond in south Reno.

The remains still need to be identified, but police did tell us a man who lived in the home with his wife is unaccounted for.

"Fire is doing the investigation for the origin of the fire and we'll be waiting on the coroner report to find the identity of the deceased person," says Reno Sgt. Ken Harmon.

While the circumstances of this fire remain unknown, investigators do not suspect foul play.

"There's no suspicions right now that there's foul play or there's any outstanding suspects. We're still waiting on fire to do their investigation to find out if it was accidental or not."

Firefighters say the blaze originally started inside a shed next to the house and then spread; they say they found the body after the blaze was extinguished. About 75% of the building was destroyed.

No one else was hurt.

Family members living at the home are staying with relatives.

"It's very tragic and I hope everything works out for the family. Hopefully, we can get some closure on this."

There is no timeline for when this investigation will be completed. Harmon says because of the condition of the body, the coroner will need dental records to identify the victim.
