From the Food Bank of Northern Nevada:
On Saturday, May 11, northern Nevada letter carriers will again help Stamp Out Hunger! with your help in order to provide assistance to the rapidly increasing number of northern Nevadans who are struggling with hunger.
To help Stamp Out Hunger! this year, simply leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable, non-expired foods, like canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal, next to your mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery on Saturday, May 11. Washoe County Postal Customers will receive a bag in their mail box to use for the drive prior to May 11 to help remind customers and give them a convenient way to collect the food. Food items should be in non-breakable containers, such as boxes and cans. Local sponsors include Scolari's Food & Drug Company, MoneyTree, KTVN News 2, and Smith's Food and Drug Stores.
The local food drive will provide food to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, Project Mana in Truckee and Incline, FISH in Carson City in Dayton, Lyon County Human Services in Yerington, the Carson Valley Food Close in Douglas County and the Churchill Community Pantry in Fallon.
Now in its 21st year, the Stamp Out Hunger! effort is the nation's largest single-day food drive. In 2013, northern Nevada drive organizers hope to exceed last year's total of 185,329 pounds of donated food.
